19 Kevin Faricy from Barrack Heights NSW Australia: We loved Fresh Fields. My wife Sonia answers the phone I always say It's only sonia
18 Carl from Worthing : my wife and I watched this show in the mid Eighties just after we were married. After a gap of 27 years I purchased the series on DVD. Its now become a firm favourite in our household as in the meantime the kids we didnt have when we first watched the show have grown up and flown the nest so we can really relate to the characters.
The late Julia mckenzie and the late Anton Rodgers work really well together as a warm married couple and are the sort of people you would like to know, Other characters like Sonia and here parents are great in their supporting roles and the whole show is just good to watch. Episodes like a Dickens of a christmas and Brighton or Bust always bring a smile to your face I just wish that more episodes had been made.
17 christella from middlesex: Why cant we get this on DVD any where. It is so funny and I can really relate to their life now we are getting older. (their age) I wish sky would show it again, they always have the same stuff on.
16 Mary Anne from U.S.: I have most of these precious episodes on videotape, since it was aired on our public television station. I've visited England a few times and walked around Barnes. It's beautiful! Does anyone have any idea what street the Hester's house was on? Or am I wasting my time / was it a fictional house? Thanks for your very kind help! :)
15 Elaine Tolley from Bristol: What a brilliantly performed sitcom. It reminds me of life at my home. My favourite episode is of William dressed as a young Japanese school girl, doing a rendition of a song from the Mikado singing, "three little maids from school". His wig flies off - what a masterpiece!
14 Andrew Brett from Cambridge, England: Ah yes - loved this! I remember all those 80s trends Hester got involved with, like Trivial Pursuit, which was released in Britain in 1984, and the episode when Hester got a cordless phone in 1985. They'd only been around a couple of years and Hester's neighbour, Sonia, was amazed by it. Fascinating - how things have changed!
Charming series, loved the casting, and especially Sonia, who was always on the cadge!
13 Alex andra Seddon from Manchester: I am such an avid fan of Fresh Fields, how I long to see the repeats on TV. Anton Rogers was just one of the best actors ever (and what a hunk!). Finding this website has made me such a happy person - LONG LIVE FRESH FIELDS !!!!!
12 Karen Hanik from Chicago,Il USA: When Hester first had her in-laws-to-be come for dinner; had to send Sonya to a chicken take-away to replace her uncooked duck; and had to dress for her daughter's wedding in her car with her mother, father, and Sonya in the car with her was so funny! All the above in 1 episode too!
11 Amanda Tackett from Michigan, U.S.A.: I LOVE this show! Thanks to PBS here in America I can still see it on Wednesday nights. My all-time favorite episode is the Christmas Party episode. Hester's over-the-top decorating, the drunken game of charades, Guy and Sonia are particularly funny in this one. I love Hester's house and the fact that she worked as a caterer; really fun stuff. I wish they'd bring this show back into present-day production!! I miss it.
10 Vernon Liddell from Edinburgh: When are we going to get an update on Hester and William's progress. The two Fields (Fresh and French) represented the best of this genre to appear on TV.
With grandchildren it would widen the appeal even further.
9 Maura Duffy from Stretford, Manchester: I thought this programme was fantastic. My life just hasn't been the same since it ended.
8 Becca Smith from Melbourne, Australia: My absolute favourite show of all time -I think the chemistry between William and Hester is just magic. The supporting cast, Sonja (it's only Sonja), Nancy, Guy, Miss Denham and a cast of thousands are just terrific. I only wish that they had made more episodes.
7 B L from Texas: I've never seen this show, but I have been desperately trying to find a place where I can post about Anton Rodgers. I was wondering if anyone has any kind of info about him. My father, Martin Wade, whom I don't really know very well, is Anton Rodger's nephew. So he's my great uncle. And I'm just trying to get back in touch with that side of the family, so I can finish my family history research. So if anyone has any kind of info that might be useful, please let me know. my e-mail is mommyslittlemonster47@yahoo.com.
6 Rhonda Dixon from Brisbane Australia: Fresh Fields is a splendid, funny show with a first class cast. It will always be delightful to watch, no matter how much time slips by.
5 Alison Massa from Kingston Jamaica: I'm watching Fresh Fields and Fresh Fields again courtesy of Florida's Channel Two Public TV station -- what a delight. These series had comic genius indeed. These are shows because of their great style, wit, charm, chemistry, fabulous timing and apparent spontaneity.
Their strength comes from situations and characters that are both realistic and very funny. The shows never resort to anything over the top but are still gently eccentric. I love the way usually down to earth and quick-witted Hester occasionally lapses into Gracie Allen-like ditziness, as when she suggests en route to France that they'll have to drive twice as fast as usual to get to their new home on time because France is one hour ahead.
4 Veronica Brown from London: I enjoyed Fresh Fields & French Fields greatly as a Kid. Anton Rodgers & Julia McKenzie were a Great Partnership on television.
3 Sarah-Jane McToaly from Brighton: I was looking all over for this site and when I found it, I shouted "There you are!". This was an all time classic. The new sitcoms don't even come close to the comic genius of 'Fresh Fields' and 'French Fields'. I was in a very poorly state when I saw my 1st ever episode. I was in hospital having both my legs amputated after a rather nasty farming accident. The series just warmed me so : Hester and her new found hobbies, William and his hilarious glare and Sonia (who could forget her?). I always used to look forward to the part when she would pop her head round the conservatory door and sing "It's only Sonia!".
2 Simon Acaster from Worthing,West Sussex: I loved Sonja, the cheerful neighbour who would always open the kitchen door and come straight in without waiting to be asked, shouting "Only Sonja!!". Even it wasn't a convenient time to visit, Hester and William would never tell Sonja to leave, That's Manners!
1 Tim Gambrill from Fareham: I was only young when Fresh Fields was first aired but i always remember the way Anton Rodgers used to gawp in astonishment whenever someone said something that shocked him.
