4 John C from NZ: I worked at BBC TV at Television Centre from 1967 to 1974. Coincidentally, because I went to the Sam eschool in Weston as a day boy in a boys private boarding school, it was a great thrill to work with him on the first Monty Python series. I also worked with Spike Milligan for many years, plus a plethora of other actors, comedians, etc etc.

1 Merkle from London: Starr had a way of melding his anarchic behaviour with some of the funniest humour the British public had ever seen. Not surprisingly prime time audiences went crazy for it and before he knew it he was a global sensation. Sketches such as his Show Biz Eleven are known the world over despite the subject matter being slightly risque. Some of the more prudish might have found his impersonations of Ray Charles and Adolf Hitler a little insensitive... but the majority of white Brits didn't care and were happy to laugh along with his daft racism and holocaust denial... What a great guy!!!
